For French defense minister Florence Parly, armies' fundings can contribute to the economic recovery of the country

It is no longer a mystery: the coronavirus health crisis has triggered a global economic crisis, the scale and effects of which are still difficult to assess. In the months and years to come, budgetary difficulties will accumulate for most countries, including France. As we have already seen in Thailand or again in Germany, defense budgets may be used by certain governments as an adjustment variable in order to reduce the operating expenses of states and redirect budgets to other sectors, such as health or social protection.

However, in a recent statement, the French Minister of Armies Florence Parly presented a very different point of view. during his hearing in the Senate on April 10. According to her, the budget of the armies devoted to defense acquisitions could on the contrary participate in the economic revival of the country, as long as it is maintained at its current level, or even increased on certain programs. Already, the Ministry of the Armed Forces would have undertaken to pay your bills as soon as possible aimed at SMEs.
