Chinese state press mentions "possible struggle" around Taiwan island

Le Chinese state website GlobalTimes.cn today published an article reporting a significant number of People's Liberation Army Air Force exercises around the island of Taiwan. The argument put forward in the article, citing โ€œexpertsโ€ consulted on the subject, is based on the anticipation of a struggle over the island. Indeed, since the end of January, and despite the crisis linked to the Covid-19 Coronavirus pandemic, the Chinese air forces have conducted no less than 4 air exercises around the independent island since 1947.

The exercises set in motion H-6 long-range bombers, KJ-500 early warning airplanes, and J-11 interceptors, a local version of the Russian Su-27 and largely modernized. China currently has only 3 tanker planes, no aircraft of this type participated in these maneuvers. In addition to the maneuvers in the Taiwan Strait which separates the island from the mainland, Chinese planes have now extended their scope of action, by carrying out exercises all around the island.
