In 2002, India introduced a set of regulations surrounding arms contracts with local or international industrials. Designated "Defense Procurement Procedure", these regulations are regularly updated to adapt to the political, industrial and economic changes in the country. While the last update was in 2016, India set out to develop a DPP 2020 which should be validated in the coming days. This new DPP should strengthen the involvement of Indian industry in defense programs. But it will also offer new possibilities to the armed forces, notably by introducing the possibility of leasing for the armed forces.
Main modification of the DPP 2020 compared to the previous version: the share of Indian production in defense purchases will be increased. The purpose of the DDP is to define a list of criteria making it possible to establish an order of priority during calls for tenders from the Ministry of Defense. Competitors who offer the most advantages for Indian industry are then favored.
