In an interview published by the Russian armed forces newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda (Red Star), Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov provides an update on developments in the new class of 5th generation attack submarines which will enter service in the next decade in the Russian Navy. Designated Laรฏka class, from the name of the first dog to have been sent into space, this program, previously identified by the name โ€œHuskyโ€, is expected to become the central model of the Russian nuclear submarine range for several decades.

The program is only in the general design phase, and it is obviously far too early to have an idea of โ€‹โ€‹what these submarines will be like. However, several main lines are emerging, such as a modular design in order to be able to design buildings for underwater warfare intended to replace the SSN of project 971 Shchuba-B (or Akula in the NATO designation), as well as specialized submersibles. in anti-ship combat and landward strikes, replacing the Antey-class ships of Project 949A.
