Vitiyaz S-350 anti-aircraft system enters service with Russian forces

News Release of Russian group Almaz-Antey says new mid-range air defense system S-350 Vitiaz entered service in the Russian armed forces, after having passed the state tests held this year. Clichés had already shown S-350 batteries in operational position in June 2019. The mobile anti-aircraft system is intended to replace the S-300P systems for anti-aircraft and anti-missile protection missions of sensitive infrastructures, but also to ensure the protection of mobile forces, an area traditionally entrusted to Buk systems. Contrary to what is often said, the successor to the S-300P anti-aircraft system is not the S-400, but the S-350. The S-400 replaces, in part, the S-300 systems with the longest range, as well as the last S-200 which entered service at the end of the 60s, and which already had a range of 200 km.
