Turkish drones have, in recent months, been widely usedhas proof of their operational efficiency, whether in theaters of operation in Syria, Libya or Iraq. Whether it is the Anka medium drone or the TB2 light drone, they combine remarkable endurance (24 hours), effective detection and communication capabilities, and proven ammunition carrying capabilities. Thus, in Libya, Turkish TB2 reportedly destroyed several Pantsir S1 anti-aircraft systems provided by the United Arab Emirates to General Haftar's forces, while recording only a limited number of casualties. In addition, they are said to be inexpensive, with the TB2 being advertised at a unit price of just $ 5m.
The designer of the TB2, Bayraktar evidently had no intention of resting on his laurels, hardly developing the TB2 which entered service, a new model, much heavier, the Akinci, a twin-engine drone offering performance close to that of American MALE drones like the Reaper. The new drone, which made its first flight in December 2019, comes fromtake a second one-hour flight, according to Bayraktar, the opportunity to present the performance of the aircraft and its operational potential.
