Today, Swedish aircraft manufacturer Saab delivered the first new generation GlobalEye early warning aircraft to the United Arab Emirates. Symbolically, this is an important step for Saab as it seeks to impose its new AEW & C aircraft as a standard for future air combat. From a material standpoint, the GlobalEye is based on the Canadian Bombardier Global 6000 business aircraft. Designed to be able to perform very long endurance flights, the Global 6000 offers the GlobalEye an autonomy of 11 hours, significant electrical power for its on-board systems, as well as a large cabin volume allowing five operators to be on board.

To carry out its missions, the GlobalEye has the latest variant of Saab's Erieye radar. This Erieye ER now has antennas AESA with GaN technologies which significantly improve its performance, precision and reliability. According to Saab, the operational range of the radar is given for 600km against large aerial targets. Capable of transmitting in low and medium waves, the Erieye ER should also have good detection capabilities against stealthy targets.
