The Su-57 would only cost Russia € 31m each

According to the Russian daily Kommersant, often very well informed, the order of 76 Su-57 by the Russian air force will cost the federal state 170 billion rubles, or a little less than 2,4 billion € in the current ruble (72 rb for 1 €).

This would bring the price of the device to “only” €31,5 million, a price comparable to that of other fighters from the Suckoi firm. Above all, the Russian plane would cost half as much as previous generation aircraft, such as the F16, the F18, the JAS39 Gripen and even the Rafale, and would cost 3 times less than Lockheed's F35A, for a much heavier aircraft, with a much greater range and firepower, and some would say, quite simply, more efficient...

This is obviously only a “Fly Away” price, and we have no information on maintenance costs, implementation costs, or ownership costs of the device. In addition, Russia generally sells its devices for export at a higher price than the prices it charges internally. The fact remains that, while Russia is now promoting the export version of the device, the Su57E, on international markets, the Su57 could well appear as a particularly attractive entry ticket to enter the “5th generation”.

Countries like Turkey, which is facing the possible (probable?) cancellation by Washington of its order for 100 F35As, but also India, whose relations with Moscow have clearly improved in recent months, or even Beijing, still inclined to equip themselves with technological devices to acquire the technology, could quickly appear as major potential customers for the Russian company. The device would also have serious advantages in attracting the attention of certain countries in the Middle East, which are increasingly sensitive to Moscow's offers.

One thing is certain, with an aircraft at this price and this performance on the global market, Moscow has the potential to reshuffle the cards in the international combat aircraft market for years to come.
