Unsurprisingly, the US Congress is hostile to the export of F-16s to Turkey

The situation tends to become more complex for President Erdogan in the case of the acquisition of new 40 new American F-16s as well as 80 kits to transform part of his 240 aircraft in service into F-16 Block 70 Viper, the most advanced version of Lockheed Martin's aircraft, including the new EASA AN / APG-83 radar, as well as modernized avionics and an advanced self-defense suite. Indeed, while US President Joe Biden kicked in by promising his Turkish counterpart RT Erdogan to "do all he can" to advance this demand, a diplomatic way of not getting involved in the issue. since the export authorization is the responsibility of Congress, it is precisely from Congress itself that the most hostile reactions to Ankara's request have come.

So, on October 25, bipartisan group of 11 U.S. representatives sent open letter to President Biden, precisely to inform him that the export of advanced aircraft such as the F-16V to Turkey represented the same level of risk as the canceled export of F-35A, and all the more so as Ankara clearly shows its determination to '' acquire a second batch of S-400 anti-aircraft systems from Moscow. The letter further describes the actions taken by Ankara in recent years as not only inconsistent with what one might expect of a NATO ally, but also clearly contrary to US interests. Yesterday, a second letter, the same tone but signed this time by other representatives of Congress, has been published, asking in particular the State Department regarding this request, and again listing the many grievances that American parliamentarians attributes to RT Erdogan's Turkey.
