We now know more about the new F-15X Advanced Eagle of the US Air Force

The acquisition of F-15s in a new standard on behalf of the USAF has taken another decisive step this week. Indeed, the US government purchasing centers have just published requests from Boeing and the engine manufacturer General Electric for the acquisition of โ€œindefinite quantitiesโ€ of F-15EX fighters and F110 reactors. While this is not a contract per se, this approach allows manufacturers to prepare for them in order to speed up future deliveries.

As a reminder, the funding of the Defense Department for the year 2020 grants the USAF nearly a billion dollars for the acquisition of 8 F-15X, including two test planes which will determine the relevance of future deliveries. This acquisition thus initially arises from a political decision, pushed by the Senate, and not from a request of the USAF which remains in priority attached to its deliveries of F-35. For the legislator, the purchase of F-15X in parallel with that of F-35, and with the retrofit of certain F-15C, is the only solution allowing the USAF to compensate for the aging of its fleet and allow the introduction of 72 new devices each year.

Unlike Project Silent Eagle, the Advanced Eagle should not see its stealth improved, but it does take on the dramatic payload increase offered by Boeing.
