Sweden prepares its population for possible conflict with Russia

The Swedish government is very concerned by the rise of Russian military forces, and by Russia's aggressive attitude towards its neighbors. This is how he began a significant increase in defense budgets, a rapprochement with NATO and reestablished military service for part of his youth.

In this logic, the Swedish authorities sent to 4,8 million households a 20-page booklet intended to give the population what to do in the event of conflict or invasion. Far from being a simple communication tool, as one might think, this booklet provides numerous indications on subjects ranging from individual and collective preparation, to what to do in the event of an air raid, how to obtain information or know resist propaganda.

The objectives of the approach are multiple. It makes it possible to unite the population in the Defense effort, in the face of unpopular measures such as the return to military service. She explains the need to increase the army budget in one of the countries which had reduced its defense investments the most since the end of the Cold War. Finally, the approach strengthens Swedish deterrence, which does not have a nuclear deterrent like France. Indeed, any military staff is aware that a country in insurrectional mode requires a large number of military and security resources to ensure its control. By doing this, Sweden is moving the cursor of the benefits/constraints ratio of a possible invasion.
