At the beginning of 2023, the broadcaster Amazon Prime published a real television UFO, the French series “Coeurs noirs”. Through six episodes that are as gripping as they are credible, the series tells the story of the hunt for a terrorist group of French extraction in Iraq, by French special forces.

Breaking with all the classics of the genre of traditional French filmmaking when it focuses on the subject of armies, Black Hearts is neither focused on introspection, nor on closed doors, even less on the difficult relationship between deployed soldiers and families, even if all these subjects appear there.
On the contrary, it is based on a dynamic narration instilled by the screenwriters of the Office of Legends, effective production and remarkable, and particularly credible, acting, including in the engagement scenes.
“Black Hearts” becomes the favorite series of AlloCiné readers on Amazon Prime in 2023
But the biggest surprise, concerning Black Hearts, was neither its script, nor its direction, nor even its right actors. The surprise came from the success that the series had on the streaming platform, in France at least.
Despite the presence of several American blockbusters, it managed to remain in the top three of films and series broadcast for several weeks, and remained in the TOP 10 of Amazon Prime France for around ten weeks.
This popular success has just been confirmed by the AlloCiné site, since the French series has been awarded the title of favorite French series on the Amazon Prime platform for 2023, even dethroning the very successful and anticipated “The Last of Us”.
This success, perfectly deserved, will be able to change the perception deeply rooted in the ecosystem of French cinematographic and audiovisual production, which has always treated themes linked to the armies with a certain disdain, to the point that the national historical icon had to to be treated by an American director in a rather questionable film.

That doesn't surprise me, I loved this series. I also found it ultra realistic and immersive
