KMW and Rheinmetall reach agreement to avoid lawsuit over Leopard 2

Tuesday, May 2 were to confront the two German giants of the construction of German armored vehicles and military land vehicles, Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Rheinmetall, before the Munich court, regarding the intellectual property of the tank Leopard 2A4. Indeed, a few days earlier, the CEO of Rheinmetall, Armin Papperger, had estimated in an interview given to the Swiss German-language news site Neue Zürcher Zeitung that his company held the intellectual property concerning the Leopard 2A4, this model having been used as the basis for the design of the new KF-51 tank Panther presented by Rheinmetall during the Eurosatory 2022 exhibition. Obviously, these statements were not at all to the taste of Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, the designer and prime contractor of the Leopard 2, which has notably ensured the progressive maintenance of the national and international park for more than 30 years. Faced with Mr Papperger's refusal to reconsider his remarks, KMW summoned Rheinmetall to the German courts to resolve the issue.
