Since the announcement of the implementation of an exceptional effort by Berlin to modernize its armed forces, with an investment budget of โ‚ฌ100 billion presented by Chancellor Olaf Scholz a few days after the start of the Russian offensive in Ukraine, numerous programs were launched across the Rhine for the Luftwaffe (F-35 aircraft and Typhoon ECR, CH-47F Helicopters, FCAS, Eurodrone) and for the Bundeswehr (Marder IFV, ammunition, anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense, etc.). On the other hand, the Deutsche Marine did not appear in Berlin's ambitions, at least until now. Indeed, according to the specialist site Europรคische Sicherheit&Technik, the German Navy is also on the verge of benefiting from this new investment capacity. According to the German site, Berlin is about to announce a major effort to modernize and expand its naval power, with the order of 2 new F-126 anti-submarine frigates, 3 new K-130 corvettes, but also 2 new Type 212CD submarines as well as 3 to 6 new P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, representing an overall increase of 25% in German naval capabilities in the years to come.

Due to the specificities of its foreign policy, and its perception of risk in Europe, Berlin had over the past 30 years significantly reduced the size, but also the capabilities of its naval force. Thus, German planning provided for 2030 only a fleet composed of 4 heavy anti-submarine warfare frigates F-126 to replace the 4 destroyers of the F-123 Brandenburg class, 3 anti-aircraft frigates of the Sachsen, of 4 Baden-Wรผrttemberg class F-125 โ€œlow intensityโ€ heavy frigates to replace the 8 Bremen-class F-122 general-purpose frigates, and 10 K-130 Braunschweig corvettes to replace the Type 143A Cheetah missile patrol boats, as well as 8 Type 212 AIP attack submarines to replace the 18 Type 206 light sailors withdrawn from service in 2010. The German naval aviation has also experienced drastic reductions in capacity, with a maritime patrol reduced to only 8 P3C Orions to be replaced so far by 5 P-8A Poseidons, the transfer of its fighter fleet to the Luftwaffe in 2005, and a helicopter fleet reduced to 45 aircraft, which will be replaced by the acquisition of NH90 NFH.
