In 2016, Prague launched a major competition to replace its infantry fighting vehicles inherited from the Warsaw Pact era with modern models from Western partners. In, 4 models were selected to compete, the Swedish CV90 Mk IV, the Spanish Ascod 2, and the German Lynx KF41 and Puma, with the objective of producing 210 armored vehicles for a budget of โ‚ฌ 2 billion to equip the Czech mechanized brigade. . KMW's Puma was phased out in 2019 after the technical specifications were drastically changed, and testing started in May of this year. At the beginning of November, however, the Czech Ministry of Defense announced that none of the three vehicles offered met the requirements of the country's authorities, effectively ending this tender. For the time being, the Czech authorities have not provided any detailed explanation concerning this abrupt decision, nor any prospect for the replacement of the BVP2 infantry fighting vehicles, the local version of the Soviet BMP-2 which had reached the end of the race.
