The nuclear attack submarine La Perle joined its home port of Toulon this week, after a technological feat of engineers and Naval Group personnel, which made it possible to graft the front section of the Saphir submarine decommissioned in 2019 to the rear section of the Pearl, after a fire destroyed the bow of the ship on June 12, 2020 while the ship was in the modernization phase and maintenance. Not only did this procedure make it possible to preserve the submarine that many considered to be lost, but the new building, which bears the baptismal name La Perle from its rear section, will be endowed with reinforced operational capacities, notably embedding certain systems that equip the ship. new class of nuclear attack submarines of the Suffren class.
