Joe Biden aligns US commitment to defend Taiwan with that of NATO

The American President is strongly contested in the United States but also on the international scene since the catastrophic collapse of the State structures and of the Afghan army in just a few weeks once the withdrawal of the American military began. In particular, many make the link between this withdrawal and the determination that they now consider questionable of the United States to ensure the security of its close allies, including among the leaders of some NATO countries. It is to explain himself on these questions that the American president granted an interview with ABC channel, interview during which he was first of all questioned about the supposed failure of the US intelligence services to anticipate the debacle. The question of the consequences of this episode on the credibility of the United States with its allies was naturally addressed by the journalist, and Joe Biden's response, although largely unnoticed in the Western media focused on Afghanistan, marks a decisive stage in the evolution of the global geopolitical situation.

Indeed, when the journalist pointed out the impact of this crisis on the credibility of the United States in ensuring the defense of Taiwan, the American president responded by putting Washington's determination to defend the island on an equal footing. independent with that which links the United States with its closest NATO allies, Japan or South Korea. By expressing himself thus, Joe Biden confirms unequivocally that Washington has indeed decided to bury the agreements of the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979, by which the United States agreed to consider the island as an integral part of the People's Republic. of China, and undertook not to intervene in the process of rapprochement of the two states, in particular by limiting the deliveries of military equipment to equipment solely for defensive purposes in Taipei, and by committing not to deploy military forces on the island, although this last point is deliberately ambiguous at this level.
