"The F35 is and remains the cornerstone of the US Air Force today and tomorrow." This is how General Charles Q. Brown presented the F35 program on occasion at the press conference following the Air Force Association's Aerospace Warfare Symposium, in order to put an end to reports that the US Air Force planned to design a new aircraft less expensive and more efficient than the F35 to replace its fleet of F16 which is reaching the end of its potential.
Obviously, the message had to be hammered out, in order to leave no doubt in the minds of future potential buyers of the F35 on the international scene as to the sustainability of the program, and its effectiveness. It seems that General Brown has therefore methodically brought out all the marketing arguments for this device, namely its belonging to the 5th generation, its data fusion, and its stealth, so many capacities presented as essential in the 21st century. It is true that with the export of nearly 300 devices in sight in Switzerland, Finland, the UAE or even Canada, it seems out of the question to torpedo Lockheed's chances by highlighting the poor performance of device, or its immeasurable list of faults and malfunctions.
