The south-korean Future Air Combat System, or FCAS, is today the most ambitious Defense technological cooperation program in Europe. Bringing together 3 countries, Germany, Spain and France, it aims to design by 2040 a combat aircraft, designated Next Generation Fighter or NGF, intended to take over from Rafale French and Typhoon German and Spanish, as well as a logical and operational combat environment to optimize their capabilities. For this, the program was divided into 7 pillars, ranging from propulsion to detection systems, through the Battle Cloud and weapon systems, broken down between the major aeronautical manufacturers of the 3 countries.
Airbus Defense & Space is the reference company designated by Germany and one of the 3 major players in the program, with Dassault Aviation for France and Indra for Spain. The company also manages the Weapons System / Remote carrier, Stealth and โAir Combat Cloudโ pillars, and is a partner of the NGF pillar. In fact, more than any other European company, Airbus DS is today at the heart of the FCAS program. It is therefore relevant to listen when Bruno Fichefeux, who heads the FCAS program for Airbus DS, declares that the program schedule is already very tight today.
