Elected or not, President Donald Trump seems determined to come to terms with the super-contract for the sale of arms to the United Arab Emirates, following the signing of a treaty to normalize relations with Israel, and relating in particular to the acquisition of 50 F35A fighter jets for the UAE Air Force. Indeed, the State Department has just announced that it has authorized this sale, as well as that of 18 MALE MQ-9B Sky Guardian drone systems and a very large batch of air-to-air and air-to-ground munitions, for an amount of $23 billion.

The transaction, carried out vigorously by the president in office probably until January 20, has therefore taken a big step towards its realization, even if several members of Congress, notably Democrats, have expressed great reservations about this. If it were to actually be approved by Congress, let us remember that today the Senate is equal between Republicans and Democrats pending the new elections in Georgia, and that the House of Representatives has a Democratic majority, it would undoubtedly be a coup, probably worth a last stand for the outgoing president.
