Taiwan, India: This time, China is no longer playing

Tensions between Beijing and its neighbors have been growing for several months. But this weekend, the semantics of the Chinese Communist Party significantly evolved into a direct threat to its Taiwanese and Indian neighbors, with the United States in its sights. No longer a question of preserving appearances now, President Xi Jinping called on the People's Liberation Army to stand ready to carry out war actions.

The trigger for this vehemence seems to have been the visit to Taipei by US Under Secretary of State Keith Krach Thursday, September 17, the first visit of an official of this rank to the independence island since 1979. Beijing has indeed responded with a series of air and naval exercises that took place from Friday to Sunday, mobilizing a large number of forces, and presented by Chinese press like a "repeat of the island invasion". Successively, 18 combat aircraft on September 18, then 19 aircraft on the 19th, which led an offensive simulation on the Taiwanese defense, crossing the median line serving as the dividing line between the two countries in the Taiwan Pass, the arm of the sea separating the island from the mainland.
