India bans import of 101 defense equipment, including submarines or light fighters

The announcement is surprising. Indeed, through the voice of Minister of Defense Rajnath Singh, the Indian government has just announced the progressive ban on importing no less than 101 major defense equipment, ranging from sniper rifles to destroyer, equipment that will be phased out between 2020 and 2025. The list of proscribed equipment will be revised each year, with the potential addition of equipment as soon as the replacement solutions become effective. In order to mark the spirits, the first tranche of equipment that cannot be imported includes light fighters, which will therefore be banned from December of this year, while submarines with conventional propulsion will be banned a year later.
