The arrival of Rafale in India met with unexpected popular success

As we informed you three days ago, five Rafale of the Indian Air Force took off from the South-West of France to reach, for the first time, their base in Ambala, in the North of India. As one could imagine, the event was eagerly awaited by the Indian military authorities, who have been facing an increase in violence from Pakistan for more than a year and, more recently, from China. However, it is astonishing how popular fervor the new Indian Air Force fighter jets were when they arrived in India yesterday.

Although this first delivery on Indian soil concerns only five tactical fighters, as modern as they are, the event was broadcast by almost all of the country's news media, and footage of the hunters landing at Ambala Air Base would have been seen by nearly half a billion spectators! This media frenzy, heavily commented on by the Indian and French press, is however relatively logical in the current context.

The five Rafale were refueled in flight on numerous occasions by French tankers, then by Indian tankers. One of the three French A330 MRTTs deployed to support the delivery continued its route to India where it brought numerous medical equipment as part of the fight against covid-19

A triumphant arrival
