On the occasion of the presentation of the half-year results to the group's shareholders, Eric Trappier, CEO of Dassault Aviation since 2013, referred to a contract for the sale of Rafale aircraft for export, a contract which was reportedly postponed to due to the health crisis linked to COVID-19, without specifying from which country this potentially imminent order for the French plane came from. After the 2014 vote that canceled the acquisition of Swedish Gripen to replace the F5s still in service with the Swiss air force, the Swiss authorities relaunched in 2017 a competition aiming, this time, to jointly replace the F5 and the F-18 in service in the country. This process also includes an air defense component, and will be validated by a referendum at the end of a selection process between several American and European aircraft, including the French Rafale. However, the results of the evaluations of the devices which were held in 2019, and of the evaluation of the offers sent by the manufacturers, should not be known before 2021.
