Israel acquires stray FireFly ammunition to support special forces and infantry

The Israeli Ministry of Defense has placed an order for an undisclosed number of loitering weapons of the Spike FireFly type, optimized for close combat. Particularly light, the FireFly will be able to be used for both precision striking and reconnaissance, combining the functions of loitering weapon and light drone depending on the payload on board.

No doubt therefore that this mixed use will only reinforce the confusion between drones and vagrant ammunition, the latter being often described as suicide drones or suicide bombers. However, if modern vagrant ammunition owes much to technological advances in the drone sector, it now constitutes a class of ammunition apart, which the FireFly complements at the bottom of the spectrum.
