The Israeli Ministry of Defense apassé order for an undisclosed number of vagrant ammunition (loitering weapons) type Spike FireFly, optimized for close combat. Particularly light, the FireFly will have the possibility of being used both for precision strike and for reconnaissance, combining the functions of wandering ammunition and light drone depending on the payload on board.
No doubt therefore that this mixed use will only reinforce the confusion between drones and vagrant ammunition, the latter being often described as suicide drones or suicide bombers. However, if modern vagrant ammunition owes much to technological advances in the drone sector, it now constitutes a class of ammunition apart, which the FireFly complements at the bottom of the spectrum.
