The aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford completes its Flight Deck Certification equipped with EMALS and AAG

While the question of the usefulness of super aircraft carriers still arises in the US Navy, the new generation of nuclear aircraft carriers (CVN) continues its development. Compared to the current Nimitz, the Ford class is equipped with new nuclear reactors and a new generation combat system. Above all, it has traded the traditional steam catapults for new generation electromagnetic systems.

It is also through General Atomics - Electromagnetic Systems that we learned that the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) had completed its Flight Desk Certification, using in particular the electromagnetic catapults (EMALS) and the strands of electromagnetic stops (AAG) of GA-ESM. This qualification takes place two months after the technical validation of this equipment on the CVN 78, which had carried out an intensive test campaign with all the planes used by the American aircraft carriers: Super Hornet, Growler, Greyhound, Hawkeye and Goshawk.
