Secretary of the Navy's resignation adds uncertainty to the future of the US Navy

Acting Secretary of the United States Navy Thomas Modly has resigned after the political and media frenzy that followed the replacement of Captain B. Crozier as commander of the nuclear aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt following the publication of a letter sent to several authorities to request the disembarkation of its crew while Covid-19 contamination increased on board . He is replaced by the current Under-Secretary of the Army, James McPherson, just 15 days after the latter had been confirmed by Congress for this position.

We will not come back to the political and media reactions that surrounded replacement of commander Crozier , nor on the unfortunate remarks made by Thomas Modly, certainly when he thought not to be recorded, on this topic. Be that as it may, the appointment of James McPherson, the third in less than 6 months to this position, and the tensions generated by this affair at the Pentagon and in the Navy, probably come at the worst moment for the United States, whereas the country is very badly hit by the epidemic of Covid-19 virus, that the social and economic consequences of this health crisis are just beginning to be revealed, and that China, for its part, is rising with confidence from this same crisis which had hit him only 4 months ago.

The USS Theodore Roosevelt is still at Guam, and half of its crew have reportedly been landed to contain the spread of the Coronavirus epidemic on board.
