Secretary of the Navy's resignation adds uncertainty to the future of the US Navy

- Advertising -

Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly tendered his resignation following the political and media outburst that followed Captain B. Crozier's replacement as commander of the nuclear aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt at the following the publication of a letter sent to several authorities requesting the disembarkation of its crew while Covid-19 contamination increased on board. He is replaced by the current Deputy Secretary of the Army, James McPherson, just 15 days after the latter was confirmed by Congress for the post.

We will not return to the political and media reactions that surrounded replacement of commander Crozier, nor on the unfortunate remarks made by Thomas Modly, certainly when he thought he had not been recorded, in this regard. Regardless, the appointment of James McPherson, the third in less than 6 months to this post, and the tensions generated by this affair at the Pentagon and in the Navy, come probably at the worst time for the United States, when the country is very hard hit by the Covid-19 epidemic, that the social and economic consequences of this health crisis are just beginning to be revealed, and that China, for its part, is recovering with aplomb from this same crisis which had hit him only 4 months ago.
