Coronavirus crisis: why is Russia helping Italy?

With nearly 70.000 cases of Covid-19 confirmed, Italy is currently the second country most affected by the coronavirus pandemic, behind China. Unfortunately, the epidemic seems to have claimed even more victims than in China, with nearly 7000 deaths from the coronavirus on Italian territory. In such a context, and while its European neighbors are also grappling with the epidemic, Rome finally appealed for international aid, particularly to China, Cuba and Russia.

Officially, for Cuba, sending its excellent doctors abroad is a way of "exporting the Revolution". In fact, it is a strong diplomatic tool allowing Cuba to emerge from its international isolation.
