Interviewed by the Finnish site Kauppalehti, the person in charge of the HX program spoke the day before yesterday about the HX Challenge competition which opposes the French Rafale, the American F-35 and F / A-18E, the Swedish JAS-39E Gripen and the European Typhoon for the renewal of the F / A-18 fighters of the Finnish air force. Over the past few months, planes have succeeded each other in Finland in order to verify, through a flight test program, that their operational characteristics correspond to those announced by the manufacturers. Logistics and military capability assessments tailored to Finnish operating modes are expected to follow later this year.
Among other general questions, Lauri Puranen wanted to answer more incisive questions about certain competitors. If the Rafale, the Typhoon and the Super Hornet were not mentioned once by the interviewer, the Gripen of SAAB and the F-35 of Lockheed Martin seem to crystallize the attention of Finnish analysts. And Lauri Puranen did not seem to see fit to be tender with the competitors, in particular the American F-35.
