The US Air Force begins testing the MH-139 Gray helicopter Wolf designed by the Italian Leonardo

The US Air Force and Boeing have started operational testing of the new helicopter operational support: the MH-139A Gray Wolf. Designed by the Italian Leonardo and manufactured in collaboration with Boeing in the Leonardo Helicopters factory on the American East Coast, this aircraft derived from the AW.39 model was acquired in 84 units in order to replace the latest Bell UH-1N Twin Huey of the USAF.

The main mission of the Gray Wolf will be to provide logistical support and ensure the security of ballistic nuclear missile launch sites located in the heart of the United States. If the contract remains relatively modest on an American scale, it once again demonstrates the technical and commercial efficiency of Europeans in the market for light and medium-sized logistics helicopters. Above all, from a symbolic point of view, it underlines the absence of the American aeronautical industry on the gigantic UH-1 replacement market, including its own territory!

The performance of the MH-139 is unmistakably superior to that of the UH-1N, while offering better uptime and lower operating costs
