Precision of Iranian strikes on Iraqi bases on January 8 surprised many military experts. According to the Israeli site DebkaFile.com, specializing in intelligence and geopolitical questions, this precision would have been obtained thanks to the Russian geolocation system GLONASS, equivalent to the American GPS system. Indeed, according to several Russian sites citing military sources, Tehran would have integrated this geolocation system into its ballistic missiles, giving them an accuracy of around 10 meters, which corresponds to the findings made on the satellite photos following the attack. .
For now, both American and Israeli intelligence cannot determine whether Iranian engineers managed to integrate this technology on their own or whether they received help from Moscow. But while 17 of the 19 missiles launched have reached their targets, this unexpected precision tends to modify the threat which the Iranian ballistic force can represent, but also its capacities to retaliate if the country were to come under a direct attack.
