According to Michel Cabirol in the columns of the economic site latribune.fr, the visit of Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto to Paris earlier this week would have opened up interesting opportunities for the French defense industry in the country. Indeed, Jakarta, which comes fromincrease the army budget by 16% in 2020, would be interested in several major French equipment to strengthen its armed forces, and be able to dissuade Beijing from any action by excess of confidence in the region. If, for the time being, it is only a question of preliminary discussions, the French solution would offer several not insignificant advantages to make the decision.
According to the information obtained by our colleague, the Indonesian minister would have mentioned an interest in the acquisition of no less than 48 Rafales aircraft, but also from 3 to 4 Scorpene submarines and 2 Gowind 2500 corvettes. And each of these equipment corresponds in fact, the difficulties faced by the Indonesian authorities in modernizing and strengthening their armed forces.[Armelse]
