In October 2019, the Lynx KF41 infantry fighting vehicle presented by the German Rheinmetall allied to the American defense giant Raytheon, was eliminated from the competition in view of rreplace Bradley VCI M2 / 3 in service in the US Army since the 80s, when the German industrialist had faced administrative difficulties in bringing his armored vehicle on time to the test site in Virginia. In fact, the program aimed at evaluating and then selecting the prototype of the future Optionnaly Manned Fighting Vehicle saw himself limited to a single participant, the Griffin III of the American General Dynamics Land Systems, which moreover spared no effort to try to maintain this status quo which, obviously, suited him perfectly.
It must be said that the OMFV program was intended to break with the previous major programs of the US Army, which are characterized by a long list of expensive programs that were finally abandoned, such as the one for the Comanche helicopter canceled after spending nearly 7 $ Billion, or the Future Combat system program which was canceled when more than $ 19 billion had been spent. But the new approach of the US Army and his Futures Command, in charge of preparing the future and the programs that compose it, probably erred by excess. Indeed, the schedule, the budget and the ambitions of the OMFV program were so ambitious that the majority of manufacturers decided to throw in the towel, including BAe who manufactured the Bradley. According to the American-British group, it was impossible to simultaneously satisfy the 3 constraints imposed by the US Army.
