Traditionally, Russian transport and combat helicopters are used within the Air Force, which accompany, at the corps level, the ground forces. This organization, if it offers great flexibility to the command to organize its resources, also creates cumbersome and slowdowns for the deployment of rapid forces, such as parachute forces. On the occasion of the reform of the parachute forces started at the beginning of this year, the General Staff decided to experiment with a new organization, that of an airmobile brigade, composed of a parachute brigade specializing in airmobile maneuvers, and 5 helicopter squadrons which, if they remain organically dependent on the Air Force, now operate at brigade level.
