Renewed tensions in Kosovo: the Serbian army placed on alert

Kosovar police carried out a raid this morning in the north of the country, a predominantly Serb region, and reportedly arrested 23 people, provoking the anger of the Serb population in the region. Spontaneous demonstrations were quickly organized, and barricades were reportedly set up in the town of Kosovska Mitrovica. Gunshots were reported.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has put the Serbian armed forces on alert, after declaring, before the Serbian parliament, that he would not leave the Serbian populations (of Kosovo) without protection in the face of the Albanian threat (Kosovar ). The situation is therefore very tense, especially since Serbia now knows it can count on support from Russia to neutralize a NATO intervention, unlike in 1999.
