While vulnerabilities in communication systems such as satellite tracking were largely brought to light during frictions between Russia and Western forces, the US Air Force officially took control of the 4th satellite of the AEHF[efn_note]Advanded Extremely High Frequency[/efn_note] program, intended to provide a strengthened and resilient communication capacity interference with American forces, but also Canadian, British and Dutch forces.

The AEHF program aims to deploy 6 satellites in geosynchronous orbit, each satellite offering greater communication capacity than all the satellites in the Milstar program, and allowing forces to exchange information such as voice, high-definition video , battlefield data or aiming data.

If the new frequencies and encryption algorithms used by the AEHF program will, for a time, make it possible to resist jamming by a potential technologically advanced adversary, they will not protect the satellites themselves, whether against other satellites, missiles, or directed energy weapons. However, these are precisely areas considered strategic by potential adversaries of the United States and its allies, such as China or Russia. In the event of a major crisis between these nations in the near future, it is more than likely that the satellites of each side will be the first victims if hostilities were to begin.

In this case, it will be the armies capable of operating in degraded environments, or those with alternative solutions that can quickly be implemented, such as micro/nano satellites, which will gain the advantage on the battlefield. Two areas in which the French armies and industry have recognized expertise…
