The consequences of the engagement which took place last week between India and Pakistan are numerous, and go beyond the framework of the air forces. So the INS Kalvari submarine, the first of a series of 6 Scorpene-type submersibles built in India, which entered service just over a year ago, has thus been deployed to secure the borders of the Jammu sector, one of the two regions at the heart of territorial claims between India and Pakistan.

The objective is, according to the Indian authorities, to prevent a naval deployment of troops, the Kalvari having 6 tubes of 533mm able to fire torpedoes and SM39 Exocet missiles, representing a very serious threat for all the buildings of the Pakistani fleet. .

The second Kalvari-class vessel, INS Khanderi, is scheduled to be delivered to the Indian Navy in April 2019, and the third, INS Karanj, by the end of the year.

This deployment is important, with India currently conducting a consultation to order 6 additional submarines, this time with an AIP module allowing the diving duration to be increased to several weeks. The industrial and operational success of the Kalvari and its sisterships will naturally play in favor of Naval Group's offer in this strategic competition.
