The BMPT Terminator 3 becomes clear after Syria

As has already been discussed several times, Russian forces have made extensive use of the Syrian theater to experiment and improve weapon systems and their doctrines. Among these systems tested, the BMPT Terminator 2 armored fighting and protection vehicle gave encouraging results, justifying the first order of 12 units. But hardly was this order announced that the development of a new version, the BMPT Terminator 3, was formalized.

The new version will abandon the T72 / 90 base to integrate into the Armata program, allowing to design an armored vehicle heavier, and much more modern than these two predecessors. In addition, it will probably be equipped with a 57 mm gun, advantageously replacing the double 30 mm gun fitted to the T2. Indeed, Russian forces have long noted the lack of performance of the 30mm caliber, considered too weak especially to attack fortified infantry positions. In addition, the new gun will increase the effective range of the on-board artillery, and allow the use of ammunition to differentiate according to the objectives to be treated, ranging from infantry to drones and helicopters, including enemy armor.

Based on the Armata chassis, the T3 would also benefit from a large payload capacity, including optronic and active-passive protection equipment.

We note that Russian arbitrations are very comparable to American and European arbitrations. Indeed, the US Army General Staff has requested that its future infantry fighting vehicles be equipped with a 50mm cannon, and not 35mm as currently. Likewise, the Franco-British T40 turret which equips the future French Jaguar EBRCs in particular, is equipped with a high-performance 40mm cannon, with greater penetration power than the 105mm cannons used on light armored vehicles. the previous generation, like the AMX 10RC.
