Switzerland launches competition to replace F5 and F18

After the citizens' vote put a stop to the acquisition of 22 Saab J39 Gripen, the Switzerland relaunches a competition with a view to replacing both its F5s and F18s, i.e. between 40 and 50 aircraft to be acquired. The 5 Western manufacturers are in the running: Boeing with the Super Hornet, Dassault with the Rafale, Eurofighter with the Typhoon, Lockheed with the F35A, and Saab and the Gripen E/F.

Note the originality of this competition, the number of devices of which is not fixed, allowing manufacturers to demonstrate superior performance justifying a lower number of devices for the same mission.
