China takes a step forward in developing advanced hypersonic engines

The Aeronautical Research Institute of the Chinese group Chengdu Aircraft Industrial co, in charge in particular of the J-20 and the J-10, announced in a publication that it had completed the phase of development of a Turbine-based Combined Cycle engine, or TBCC, and will therefore begin the aircraft testing phase of the system.

TBCC technology combines the advantages of the classic jet engine, using a turbine, and the ramjet. It therefore makes it possible to build aircraft that can both ensure their transitions (takeoffs, landing, gaining speed and initial altitude), and benefit from the hypersonic performances of the ramjet.

This technology is considered strategic, both for the development of military aircraft and drones, and for the development of civilian devices.
