The prototype of the SB>1 Defiant, the new generation helicopter from Sikorsky-Boeing opposed to Bell's V-280 Valor in partnership with Lockheed, began at the start of the year ground tests, foreshadowing future aerial tests. Derived from the X2 and S-97 demonstrators, the Defiant uses a counter-rotating rotor and a propulsive propeller, capable, according to its designers, of doubling the speed and range of the aircraft compared to a helicopter of the same category.
In addition, Sikorsky assures that the attack and maneuver versions of the device will share 85% of the parts, for easier extended maintenance. However, the SB>1 prototype begins its tests more than 1 year after its rival, the V280 Valor, using tilting rotor technology already tested on the V22 Osprey.
